☭ 009 [Video- Goldenrod]

[He's been doing a lot of thinking recently; about Team rocket, about Johto and various other things. There's one thing that he keeps coming back to though, and it's actually starting to annoy him.

The 'Gear's focused at the moment on his Munchlax, who is happily checking its fur for any food it's stashed away, devouring any and all of the matted, hairy mess as soon as it's discovered.

Delicious.]

Have had Dipshit for very long time. Had Vodyanoy for less and has involved already...

So how do you get monsters to evolve? Have not managed to get any of them to evolve yet. Am obviously missing something.

[The 'Gear moves to Catherine, the Scyther contentedly preening herself, his Sunkern giving soft, purring like noises as it sleeps beside her.]

Even Catherine has not yet- is odd, is very dutiful creature...

Anyway, tell me how to make my monsters stronger Johto, am fed up of fighting harder battles on my own, not that it isn't rather thrilling~

[As little as Gorthan likes Ivan, Minnie keeps suggesting that he should not give up on him entirely. Could the two Rockets really have something in common? As a scientist and, generally, a curious man, Gorthan has to take even that hypothesis into consideration.

... While he decides which direction to take with that, have a Video. The scientist appears to be outside, out and about in Goldenrod, probably somewhere close to the water, as the sea breeze keeps messing up his dreadlocks.]

The time you have been with them is not a variable. At all. Generally, two things count - their experience in battle and their attachment to you. If, out of these two, you do not believe that the former is lacking, I suggest you work on the latter. And for that purpose, unflattering nicknames are probably something you want to avoid.

And yet your Munchlax refuses to evolve. Could it be its way to rebel to that unfortunate epithet?

As for the other two. My research indicates that Scyther to Scizor is what is colloquially referred to as a "trade evolution", aided by a certain rare item. While Sunkern evolves via exposure to a Sun Stone. I have been looking into getting a Sunkern myself, actually.

[Normally Descole isn't one for providing too much help to these newcomers, but the Scyther catches his eye; Scythers are always relevant to his interests, so. You can have a video.

It's shot from within the Rocket base itself, though it's nearly impossible to tell that; clearly, Descole is back to his original line of thinking - true art is incomprehensible, also poorly-lit and making you wonder what in the good hell this angle is trying to be, but at least his face is...kind of visible, mask aside.]

While I don't know about the others, you might not want that Scyther to evolve at all.

[Oh, comecomecome - he's a man of science, and as such there's method to his madness!

...sometimes.]

Well, my friend, it all depends on what you're raising it for - with that particular species, an evolution will raise its attack and defense, but will take a severe toll on its speed. The secondary type will also change to Steel - which is good for defense, but will make it doubly-weak to those fire-types you're no longer capable of outspeeding, and the heightened defenses will do nothing against Special Attack moves.

I'm raising one myself, you see - researching these things has been a bit of a priority, you could say. Either way, it's all a matter of figuring out what you want. If you'd like to risk it and raise your sheer power, then you be my guest; I can't say I'd blame you either way.

[...hello Ivan, this is Descole. When given the opportunity to raise a team of murderbeasts, he will promptly...do absolutely nothing of the sort and will instead devote his time to reading about them. Someone needs to get the scientist out of the damn lab.]

I don't really know what to tell ya. I've had Sheldon here for almost six months, and still nothin'.

[he gestures to the shuckle resting lazily on the inn's bar in front of him]

I didn't even know they could evolve until recently. Guess I'm just not all that well versed when it comes to these things.

Maybe they're just nervous, or somethin'? I mean... seems like it'd be pretty hard to feel comfortable enough to do somethin' like that. But I'm glad to see it's not just me. I was startin' to think they just hated me.

[he glances down at the sleeping pokemon]

This's Sheldon... he's a shuckle. Nobody I've met seems to have one, can't see why.

I dunno. I mean... they all seem to have different personalities. Maybe yours just don't work well under pressure.

[he glances at Sheldon again]

Or mine either, come to think of it. Did ya try... tellin' 'em it's not somethin' to be scared of?

Might. I dunno how willing they'll be to listen to ya, but it can't hurt, can it? I mean right now, there's nothin' happenin'. I don't think talkin' to 'em about it can make any less happen, right?

But if they're anything like kids, sometimes you gotta spell things out for 'em.

That's the spirit. Can't let a little somethin' like fear on their part stop ya.

I'm Douglas, by the way. What should I call ya?

There's a variety of manners by which pokémon evolve, not just by leveling. Marianne required a Fire Stone in order to be able to evolve, and Thérèse evolved into an Umbreon due to happiness and the time of day. From what I've gathered from the 'Dex, Étienne will not evolve at all.

[France smiles, although he looks a little put off about the Munchlax's food store.]

...Are you sure Dipshit should be eating things like that?

[Evolution? That's certainly something Archer can help with! He's been studying evolution for quite some time and he's raising a good number of Pokémon who evolve through different methods.]

I'm not familiar with the first one, but your Scyther evolves when traded while holding an item, I believe.

I certainly don't blame you. I wouldn't have traded mine away if I didn't know I'd receive them back.

[It pays to have a codependent subordinate sometimes!]

Happiness evolutions are some of the most difficult. It took me four months to get mine to evolve.

[Admittedly that was because he traded it around the two month mark... but details.]

I think the only thing you can do is continue to keep it happy for quite some time.

If it's possible, keep it out of the ball. Just keeping it with you seems to keep it happy. Battling with it should help - as long as it doesn't faint - and using items on it helps as well.

[They're horrible. Worst type of evolution by far.]

I wish you the best of luck with it. It certainly will take time, but hopefully it will be worth it.

Maybe suspicious in big store.. Staff and cameras can be looking. But should be easy with small Poké.
